A simple recipe for rusks. Enjoy preparing them by following directions step by step.
1 cup margarine
1¼ cups sugar
3¼ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon almond flavoring
2 teaspoons cinnamon
2 teaspoons sugar
1Cream together margarine and 1¼ cups sugar. Add eggs and mix. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together.
2Add to creamed batter, alternating with sour milk. Add cardamom and almond flavoring.
3Pour into greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes.
5When cooled, slice 4 the short way and 12 the long way.
6Spread on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
7Dry at 300° for 15 minutes.
8Turn rusks, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and dry 15 minutes longer.
9Turn the oven off, leaving the rusks in the oven until it cools completely, about 2 hours.
