A simple recipe for rusks. Enjoy preparing them by following directions step by step.


1 cup margarine

1¼ cups sugar

2 eggs

3¼ cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup sour milk

1 teaspoon ground cardamom

1 teaspoon almond flavoring

2 teaspoons cinnamon

2 teaspoons sugar


Cream together margarine and 1¼ cups sugar. Add eggs and mix. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together.

Add to creamed batter, alternating with sour milk. Add cardamom and almond flavoring.

Pour into greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes.


When cooled, slice 4 the short way and 12 the long way.

Spread on a baking sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.

Dry at 300° for 15 minutes.

Turn rusks, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and dry 15 minutes longer.

Turn the oven off, leaving the rusks in the oven until it cools completely, about 2 hours.
