Thai Grilled Chicken – Gai Yang

Amazing recipe for Thai grilled chicken – gai yang. If your hobby is grilling, give this delicious chicken a try.


4 Whole chicken breasts

2 tsp. Whole black peppercorns

2 Minced garlic cloves

2 tbsp. Fresh coriander roots, chopped and minced

1 tbsp. Asian fish sauce

1 c. Canned unsweetened coconut milk


With the help of a cleaver, halve chicken breasts and cut each half crosswise.

With help of flat side edge of the cleaver, blend garlic and peppercorns with a pinch salt to make a smooth paste.

Add coriander roots and blend well, to make a paste.

In a bowl stir together coriander paste, coconut milk, and fish sauce.

Add chicken and let it turn to coat with the marinade.

Marinate it at room temperature for 1 hour, covered.

Prepare grill.

Skin sided down, grill the chicken on a lightly oiled rack, until browned (7 to 10 min.)

Lightly brush top with marinade and discard any remaining; turn the chicken.

Grill chicken until just cooked through and juices run out (7 to 10 minutes).
