4 Great Mango Smoothie Recipes

Before getting into the detailed process of making delicious mango smoothies, let’s discuss what a smoothie is and how it can benefit our health.

What is a smoothie?

Unlike juices, where fruits and vegetables are used to extract the juice, a smoothie is made up of the whole vegetable. A smoothie has higher levels of carbohydrates, fibers, fruit sugars and vitamin C. This makes it more nutritious than a normal glass of juice.

How to make a perfect smoothie?

Before putting the ingredients into the blender to blend them together, make sure to obtain skim milk. When making the smoothies, vegetables and fruits need to be peeled and any cores, seeds, pips and stalks need to be removed. However, if you are making strawberry or raspberry smoothies, there is no need to worry about this.

How thick should a smoothie be?

Smoothies are supposed to be thicker than natural juices. The essence of a smoothie is represented by its thickness. A pulpy smoothie would have an added amount of starch in it, as lentils or bulghur wheat. This thickens the smoothie further. However, you can dilute your smoothie anytime with water, vegetable juice or milk, depending on how you like it.

Watermelon or cucumber can be a very good alternative to dilute your smoothie. It is completely your personal choice too. Some prefer to have an extremely dilute smoothie while some prefer having a thick smoothie than can be consumed with a spoon.

Do smoothies need sweetening?

Smoothies have a natural content of sugar in them due to fruits and vegetables present in them, but you can definitely sweeten it depending on your needs. You can add maple syrup or honey to it to enhance its taste. You can further sharpen the taste by adding lemon or lemon juice. Make sure that you add the flavors to sharpen or sweeten it just before drinking. Prolonging consumption after adding sweeteners to it will destroy its natural taste completely.

How long can a smoothie stay fresh?

If you keep your smoothie standing for long, it will start to lose its vitamin content. The fruits in your smoothie will start to oxidize after exposure to air. In the case of apple or banana smoothies, the fruits will be affected by turning brown. How can you remove the froth from the smoothie?

You can easily skim off the froth from the top layer of your smoothie with a spoon. No added effort is needed for this. You can also have some fun by drinking smoothies from a straw.

How to create your favorite smoothie?

You can select any fruit or vegetable you like, to make your smoothie. Just make sure your smoothie looks luscious and fresh. The final picture of your smoothie should be fresh enough to allure your taste buds. A smoothie with the look of pond water would not be enticing to anyone no matter how tasty it might be.

A warning would be not to mix and match too many flavors in your smoothie. It may spoil the taste instead of enhancing it. A better idea is to neutralize dense flesh like banana, avocado, and mango with juicier fruits like cucumber, melon, and oranges.

The recipe will require at least two mangos but you can add more to taste. To prepare the mangoes there are at least two ways to go about it. The first way is to peel it first and then cut the meat out in layers. The other way is to slice it into three pieces. In order to do this, you can start by positioning the knife near the area where the fruit joins the stem and cut along the seed.

Repeat the same procedure on the other side. Scoop out the meat and place into a bowl for freezing. Let it sit in the freezer for up to two hours. To prepare the rest of the fruit, slice up the banana into small chunks.

Mix the crushed ice, mangos and bananas in a blender. Add the honey and yogurt. The honey is added by pouring it from a spoon on top of the solid ingredients and mixing well. Puree this mixture for at least three minutes. You are done when the mixture reaches a smooth and fine consistency. When this state has been attained, remove the lid and pour into a tall cool glass. Serve and enjoy.
