Honey Glazed Ham Recipe

Ingredients

 A 5 - 7 pound smoked and cooked ham
 10 slices pineapple
 10 cherries
 20 cloves
 2 bay leaves
 2 cloves
 1/3 cup honey

Directions

Remove the packaging from the ham and leave the skin on the ham.

Fill a large stock pot half way with cold water; bring to a boil over high heat. Carefully lower the ham into the boiling pot of water using a set of tongs, reduce the heat to medium and boil for 30 minutes. Try to cover the ham with water to prevent it from turning black, if possible.

Note: Near the last 7 – 10 minutes of boiling, position an oven rack on the lowest level and preheat the oven to 400’F.

Drain the ham in the colander.

Cut or break toothpicks in half, to create 2 pieces, each piece measuring about 1-inch long.

Score all around the skin of the ham, in a diamond criss-cross manner, going only a little less than 1/4-inch deep.

Arrange the pineapple slices, over the ham, spiking the toothpicks through the slices and into the ham. Spike the cherries into pineapple centres and then the 20 cloves into the skin. Alternatively, arrange the slices, cherries and cloves any which way you like.

Place the prepared ham in the roasting pan and then add in enough fresh cold water to fill pan by 1/3’s worth. Add in the bay leaves and 2 cloves. Cover the pan with the foil paper and tightly seal foil around the edges of the pan to keep in the steam during baking. Bake in a preheated oven for 1 hour.

After an hour of baking, remove the foil paper carefully and then continue baking uncovered for 30 minutes, basting the ham with a third of the honey glaze every 10 minutes. If planning not to use the honey glaze, then simply baste with the accumulated pan juices.

Making the Honey Glaze:

In a small measuring cup, combine the honey with 1 tablespoon water.

Serving the Ham:

Present the ham with the spiked fruit as is. However, before slicing the ham, remove and discard the toothpicks and then set aside the fruit. Slice the ham into 1/4-inch slices and then arrange the slices and fruit on a serving platter.
