Homemade Fenugreek Powder Recipe

Fenugreek powder is an essential ingredient in Indian cuisine. It has a slightly sweet, nutty taste that enhances the flavor of curries, daals, and more. Making your own fenugreek powder allows you to control the freshness and toast level. Follow this simple recipe to make fragrant, nutritious fenugreek powder at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for roasting)

Instructions

  • Pick over the fenugreek seeds to remove any debris. Rinse well.
  • Pat the seeds dry thoroughly with paper towels. Spread in a single layer and allow to air dry completely for several hours.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the dried fenugreek seeds in an even layer.
  • Roast for 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously, until the seeds are lightly browned and give off a nutty aroma. Be careful not to burn.
  • Remove from heat and transfer the seeds to a plate to stop the cooking process. Allow to cool completely.
  • Add the roasted seeds to a spice grinder or blender. Grind in short pulses to a fine powder. Be careful not to over grind into a paste.
  • Store the homemade fenugreek powder in an airtight container. Enjoy its warm, earthy aroma and flavor for up to 3 months.

Notes

Add a teaspoon of fragrant fenugreek powder to curry dishes, lentils, stir fries, and more to give them a flavor boost. Enjoy!
